Peptide formulary
Epitalon
Epitalon is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide based on epithalamin, a substance produced by the pineal gland. Dr. Luria may prescribe it within protocols focused on sleep, circadian rhythm, and healthy aging.
A short tetrapeptide based on a pineal-gland peptide, studied for its role in circadian rhythm and healthy aging.
Class
Synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly)
Administration
Subcutaneous injection; typically in cyclical courses
Typical goals
Sleep quality, circadian rhythm, healthy aging
What it is
Epitalon, in plain language.
Epitalon (also written epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide modeled on epithalamin, a peptide produced by the pineal gland, the small structure involved in regulating sleep and circadian rhythm. It is prepared as a compounded prescription.
It is most often discussed in the context of sleep quality and healthy aging, and is typically used in short cyclical courses rather than continuously. Dr. Luria decides whether and how it fits a protocol.
The human evidence base is limited and much of the research is preclinical or early-stage, which Dr. Luria reviews with you so expectations stay realistic.
Mechanism
How epitalon works in the body.
Epitalon is studied for its influence on the pineal gland and on circadian signaling, including the body's own melatonin rhythm, one proposed reason for its interest in sleep-related goals.
It has also been studied for effects on telomerase activity, an enzyme involved in maintaining the protective ends of chromosomes, which is why it appears in healthy-aging discussions.
The mechanism remains an area of active study. Dr. Luria monitors response and adjusts the protocol over time.
Who it's typically for
The patient profile.
Epitalon is most often considered for adults pursuing better sleep quality and healthy-aging goals, usually as one element of a broader, measured plan.
Dr. Luria evaluates whether it is appropriate for your goals and history and is candid when the honest answer is a different direction.
What patients commonly report
Reported experiences.
Sleep quality
Patients pursuing sleep goals have reported improvements in sleep depth; individual and variable.
Circadian rhythm
Some describe a steadier sense of their day-night rhythm over a course.
Recovery
Some report feeling more rested and recovered; develops gradually.
Vitality
Many describe a general sense of well-being over time.
Individual response varies. The human evidence base is limited, not every patient experiences every benefit, and timelines differ.
Common questions
Epitalon, answered.
Is Epitalon a sleeping pill?
Is it FDA-approved?
How is it dosed?
Considerations
When epitalon may not be appropriate.
Epitalon is generally not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active malignancy, or alongside certain medical conditions, and its long-term human safety data are limited. Full evaluation happens in consultation before any protocol is set.
